In this one day workshop we will discuss the unique experiences of children and adolescents in out-of-home-care. We will examine separation and loss, grief, trauma, attachment and transracial issues. Using a Theraplay® model, you will have a chance to experience playful activities from each of the four dimensions of Structure, Engagement, Nurture and Challenge. Theraplay is a child and family therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement using play. We will also use art to explore and enhance attachment and positive self-identity.
This training will provide you with greater understanding of and appreciation for the unique experience that children and young people in out-of-home-care face. You will be introduced to play-based attachment interventions from a Theraplay® model and have the chance to participate in hands-on playful activities.
Psychologists, social workers, counsellors, play therapists, case and care workers, child and family counsellors, child protection workers, mental health and pastoral workers, other allied health professionals and students of these disciplines. Provisional psychologists can attend at student rates.
