Engaging Boys and Young Men in Counselling (with Gestalt Play Therapy)

Course Description

3 hour live, online course

Many boys and young men struggle with engagement: with their own emotions, within social relationships, and within educational and mental health contexts. At the same time, many professionals in counselling are challenged with the ability to stay in good and helpful relational engagement with boys and young men: with understanding both the social and biological influences on male development and with knowing how to connect with boys and young men in ways that will help them flourish. Inspired by Gestalt Play Therapy , in this workshop, you will be challenged to see boys and young men in new ways and supported in developing new skills for our work with them.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will have an opportunity to:

  • Deepen your understanding of particular issues boys and young men face and why,
  • Gain understanding of a particular relational style of many boys and young men and how to work with that relational style in practice,
  • Learn new strategies inspired from Gestalt Play Therapy to engage boys and young men in individual or group counselling,
  • Explore ways to increase the relational capacities of boys and young men,
  • Apply data from research and scholarship regarding boys and young men in counselling practice.
