Playback Theatre Sydney has been creating story-based, improvised performances for diverse audiences for the past 45 years. PTS is proud to be the oldest continuously performing Playback company in the world.

Playback Theatre is spontaneous - it is theatre created through a unique collaboration between performers and audiences. Through the sharing and recreating of individual stories and life experiences, Playback Theatre allows people to empathise, reflect and connect more deeply. In our performances, we invite personal stories from the audience and, using the dynamic form of improvisation, we reshape these experiences into theatre using emotion, words, movement and music. Playback performances reflect the complexity of human experience while celebrating commonality – they open discussion and allow new and refreshed perspectives to grow. PTS holds regular public performances and customised performances and workshops for organisations.

Playback Theatre Sydney includes members with backgrounds in theatre, music, dramatherapy, along with professionals in diverse fields who are drawn to Playback for the joy of improvisation and building community connection.
